2020 PRESIDENTIAL THEME
ASHRAE Society President, Charles E. Gulledge’s theme for the 2020-21 ASHRAE Society Year is "The ASHRAE Digital Lighthouse and Industry 4.0".
In Summary, the theme focuses on reimagining the building industry by not only integrating industry segments, but technology. Digital transformation is not simply associated with adopting new technical solutions. Knowledge needs to be captured and linked in such a way that ALL relevant stakeholders’ benefit. Doing so requires understanding of how to collect, store, and analyze data; so that it is insightful and actionable. The theme’s aim is to examine how ASHRAE and its members will lead the industry in becoming a part of the digital transformation that will guide the building industry into the next decade and beyond.
WHAT IS INDUSTRY 4.0
Industry 4.0 is the fourth industrial revolution, the new industrial age of connection and cyber-physical activities. Big data, The Internet of Things and artificial intelligence are changing the working world. Unprecedented connectivity is making way for unprecedented and unrealized possibilities in the productivity, efficiency and value of the services we provide.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT
President Gulledge: The world is evolving. Work, itself, is being redefined . . . We need to evolve to be more digitally mature . . . invest in technology and talent . . . move away from paper and move to connected platforms. We have to find value, eliminate waste and improve the experiences for others via the services we provide . . . The ones who don't, are going to be left behind.
